Inspired by vast landscapes of her native Netherlands, Ellen Kooi's enigmatic and eerie photographs centre upon nature as a stage for human's spectral behaviour; legs hang from a tree, scattered children stand aimlessly in a hazy meadow, a woman creeps in a field and a young boy lays lifeless on a riverbank. The reality blurs with a dreamlike imagery resulting in a haunting and sinister character of the images.

One of the photographers to participate in Paris Photo 2010, her latest series, Out of Sight, is currently on view at the city's Institut Néerlandais.
