Ross Lovegrove on his approach to design
Ross Lovegrove: "If you can visualise the dreams inside your head, the things other people can't see, you can do anything."
The contemporary designer Ross Lovegrove has designed two new astoundingly slender lamps for the Italian brand Danese, which exhibited both at their booth at this year's Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan.
The 100% Table Lamp, which is perfect for stylish offices, has a printed circuit that runs along the inner part of the lamp's aluminium arm, making the design as slim and sleek as possible. A small touch dimmer at the bottom of the arm is all that is needed to illuminate the lamp. A similar design concept was used for the 100% Suspension Lamp, which features individual modules that can be joined together to make configurations as simple or elaborate as you wish.
Originally an industrial designer, Lovegrove now designs anything from household furniture to high tech appliances. He is the brains and talent behind some of the most iconic designs around, including the Sony Walkman, the Kodak Disc camera and the Globetrotter Case. With functionality always in mind and constantly seeking out the potential of design to explore new technologies, forms and materials, Lovegrove's designs always retain a certain sculptural purity, lightness and resourcefulness.
