Putting design principles into design practice

In 1959 a Danish furniture entrepreneur, Niels Vitsœ, and a German furniture-maker, Otto Zapf, founded Vitsoe+Zapf in order to realise the furniture designs of a young Dieter Rams. Then a rising star at Braun, Rams would go on to revolutionise hundreds of household products, from record players and alarm clocks to shelving systems and door handles. 

Over 50 years later his legacy (Rams is retired but still active) endures in design development today, both through the breakthroughs he made in product development, but also through his famous Ten Principles of Good Design.

Cool Hunting met company Director Mark Adams at Vitsœ's headquarters in London to find out why Rams' Principles are so intrinsic to the practice's ethos today.
