Vegetables to grow in your garden and summer recipes to try with your harvest
With 'Vegetables from an Italian Garden' you can find out when to plant and how best to use your home-grown ingredients
Dating back to 1862, the Chelsea Flower Show is a horticultural feast for the imagination and senses. Opening tomorrow, this year's show is tipped to have the most innovative collection of show gardens to date.
Look out for gold medal winners from last year's Flower Show, James Wong and David Cubero, set to bring visitors to the jungle streams and traditional architecture of the Malaysian archipelago with their show garden for Tourism Malaysia. Littered with rainforest plants, Wong and Cubero set the precedent for exotic show gardens with their entry last year - the first full-size tropical garden to be entered at Chelsea.
Another garden to visit is Patrick Collins and Laurie Chetwood’s ambitious 9m tall skyfarming garden for B&Q. It puts our concrete lawns and dahlia borders to shame and makes us itch for green fingers.
For ongoing inspiration, Phaidon’s The Garden Book offers creative ideas for transforming your garden. For a practical guide to growing-your-own ingredients Vegetables from an Italian Garden will have you a step closer to self-sufficiency.
