Jonathan Olivares on 'A Taxonomy of Office Chairs'
The author talks through the inspiration behind his detailed analysis of the evolution of the office chair
Do you love or hate your office chair? It's something we've been thinking about a lot recently, as we compare ours to those in the new book A Taxonomy of Office Chairs by Jonathan Olivares.
A Taxonomy of Office Chairs is the definitive guide to office chairs and an objective account of their history from the pivotal cast iron 1849 Centripetal Spring Armchair to modern ergonomically designed recliners. It includes 400 illustrations charting the evolution of each part of the chair from headrests and seat covers to back panels and casters.
We asked you to send us photographs of your office chair and these are some of the responses we've had.
Here's how you can still take part:
1) Take a photo of you and your chair, and get your colleagues to help make more creative pictures.
2) Then share your photos on Twitter using the tag: #MyOfficeChair and tell us why you love or hate your chair.
3) The best pictures will be featured here on Phaidon.com in the coming weeks and you can see what everyone else is sitting on, and how your office chair compares.
You may even discover your office chair is a classic and included Olivares's book A Taxonomy of Office Chairs.
