Assessing the legacy of Nancy Spero
London's Serpentine Gallery examines the work and influence of the acclaimed artist, feminist and activist
The work of American artist Nancy Spero is as much about the oppressions of a male-centric, hierarchical society as it is about the corruption caused by war, violence and power. An artist as well as a devout feminist and political activist, Spero's work is a reflection of, and crucial contribution to, her ongoing statements against inequality and injustice.
The Serpentine Gallery in London is hosting Nancy Spero, the first posthumous retrospective of Spero's work, just two years after her death in 2009 (until 2 May).
The exhibition is held in conjunction with Nancy Spero: A Conference at the V&A on 15 April.
